Can Nanjala win FKF Women Premier League Golden Boot this season?

By , June 8, 2021

With an explosive and steady right foot, Violet Nanjala scored a hat trick at the weekend to help her team Trans-Nzoia Falcons register a comfortable 6-2 win over Oserian Ladies in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Women Premier League round 13 matches.

Being her fourth hat trick of the season, it means that the Falcons’ centre-forward has 18 goals to her name in 13 matches, putting herself in a greater distance between her and the Golden Boot’s chasing pack.

With the Premier League regular season coming to an end this Saturday, Nanjala is bidding to battle to finish as the top-flight’s leading scorer and she is confident, the trophy is hers this season.

“For sure I am very determined to win this year’s golden boot. And above all, I am going to score on Saturday because I’m sure of it since I always believe in myself and God above,” said Nanjala in an exclusive interview with People Sport.

Nanjala, 19, says it is her business to score since she discovered her love for football while in high school.

“For me, scoring has become my habit and it has not been hard for me to score. So scoring which I developed while in high school is intact and since then, I’ve not looked back, therefore, I am very confident that this year’s golden boot is mine, and I am praying for that to happen,” added the striker.

Comparing her performance in the first leg and second leg, Nanjala said that the first leg was not that easy for her but the second one has been fantastic since it is the leg she has been able to score very many goals, and coach Christopher Mfede Olembe is proud of her outstanding performance and her contribution to the team’s performance this season.

“The only thing I can tell you is that Violet [Nanjala] has played a very big role in the team. She’s a very disciplined girl and her determination, her power, and pace in the field are unmatched. So with her age (19) to her advantage, she’s destined for greatness and I believe she’s ready to deliver the golden boot this time around,” Trans-Nzoia Falcons’ coach Christopher Mfede Olembe told People Sport.

Nanjala and Trans Nzoia Falcons face title holders Vihiga Queens FC at Moi Stadium Kisumu in the final match of the season seeking to pummel in as many goals as possible to seal off the race.

Breathing on Nanjala’s neck and ready to beat her to trophy is Thika Queens’ Mwanalima Jereko Adams who has 16 goals. Vihiga Queens’ Tereza Engesha with 15 goals is also in contention to get her hands on the prize though she has work to do to catch up with the top two scorers, while Wadadia’s Ruth Chebungei (12 goals), Mercy Airo of Gaspo Women (11 goals), Stella Anyango Odhiambo of Nakuru Queens (11 goals as well), Christine Ngoizi of Kayole Starlet FC (nine goals), and military girl Siliya Rasoha of Ulinzi Starlets FC (nine goals) are the dark horses lurking for the gong after unexpectedly prolific campaigns.
