Bandari hires Bernard Mwalala as new coach after firing Moroccan tactician
By Luke Oluoch, January 10, 2026Football Kenya Premier League side Bandari FC has appointed Bernard Mwalala as its new head coach.
The Dockers confirmed the change of management that sees the immediate assistant to Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi return to the club he previously oversaw during the 2022 season.
On a Facebook page this Saturday, January 10, 2026, Bandari confirmed the replacement of Mohammed Borji, who was sacked a couple of months into the job on December 11, 2025, with veteran goalkeepers trainer Razak Siwa, who was handed the reins.
“Bandari Football Club appoints Bernard Mwalala as the new head coach. He brings a wealth of skills and knowledge that will propel the club to greater heights,” a statement from the club read.
Borji was appointed the head coach on Monday, October 6, 2025, following the team’s parting ways with Ken Odhiambo.
His stint with the Dockers proved to be a troubled one, with the fear of the axe looming over his head after three games in charge before being shown the door before the end of the year.
Bandari’s hotseat
Meanwhile, the recent appointment continues the roll of heads in the coastal club head coach role. The position has seen the Moroccan coach, John Barasa, and Ken Odhiambo among the coaches to occupy the hot seat in recent times.
The former KCB and immediate Shabana assistant coach is poised to mark his debut as Bandari hosts Kakamega Homeboyz in a Premier League clash this Saturday, January 10, 2025, in Mombasa.
Bandari FC is in 13th position in the 18-team league table. They have accumulated 17 points from 14 matches played, winning only three games and suffering three losses.
