FKF Premier League outfit Bandari FC have dropped their interest in Tusker coach Robert Matano and instead settled for Twahir Muhiddin ahead of the new season.

The Dockers, who rounded off the top-flight season with a comeback 2-1 victory against Posta Rangers in Nairobi on Sunday, have been engaged in talks to hire Matano from the Brewers for the past two weeks.

However, a top official of the club, who sought anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, has exclusively told People Sport the Dockers have dropped their interest in his services and will give the job to Muhiddin (right), who doubles up as the team’s technical director, on a permanent basis.

“We are not interested in Matano’s services any more and I can confirm the club’s board of directors has agreed in unison to give the job to Muhiddin on a two-year renewable deal,” the source told People Daily Sports, adding: “It is true Bandari had reached out to Matano but he did not sign any deal yet and negotiations are over now, we just feel Muhiddin can do the job better.”

The source added: “We have full confidence in Muhiddin and we know he has what it takes to drive the team forward since our main target is to challenge for the league title next season, he has proved this already with good results since coming in on the interim basis.”

The source further confirmed Muhiddin, who once handled Kenya’s national team Harambee Stars, has already started identifying new players to come in and reinforce the squad.

“As the board, we will give him (Muhiddin) a free hand to do his job, and I can assure you he has already started working out on those players who will come in and those who will be released in the transfer window.

What I can confirm is the new board will give him full support to transform the team,” added the source.
