Aiyabei targets more accolades after Frankfurt victory

Frankfurt Marathon champion Valary Aiyabei is now eyeing a major marathon next season.
Aiyabei, who jetted back home on Tuesday accompanied by her husband Kenneth Kiplagat and daughter Michelle Jebet, run 2:19:10 to break the course record of 2:20:36 held by Ethiopian Meskerem Assefa as she became the first woman to run sub 2.20 in Frankfurt.
That experience has given her confidence of going for better times in a major global marathon in the near future. “I am going to rest and recover while doing some easy running as I wait for my management’s decision on which race to run next season,” said Aiyabei.
Inspired by Brigid Kosgei, who broke the world marathon record in Chicago two weeks ago, Aiyabei believes such a feat should not be far from her mind.
“It was a good motivation. If you see someone moving a step further, it pushes you to do the same. It is possible to break the world record. It depends with your mind and how you train for it. It is my prayer that in the near future, I will go for it,” she added.
