By Luke Oluoch, December 14, 2025The Kenyan cruise at the ongoing African Youth Games in Luanda, Angola, continued with the men’s and girls’ beach volleyball teams securing qualification to the semifinals of the discipline.
The teams’ success in the beach sporting event comes after their respective victories in the quarterfinal clash staged on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Edda Chepkemei led the girls’ team to the last four after a fine showing in the quarterfinal against host Angola.
Raring for medals
“We expected to win yesterday, and we delivered. Now our focus shifts to working even harder for the next challenge. We hope to be ready for more medals,” Chepkemei told NOCK.
Meanwhile, Team Kenya’s quest for an improved showing was boosted further on Saturday as former National Olympic Committee supremo Paul Tergat and athlete Tegla Lorupe joined the team in Angola for the youth championship.

The success was followed by the men’s team, who advanced to the final four.
The success follows the Karate Team securing two podium finishes in the games on Friday.
In a statement on its X page on Friday, December 12, 2025, NOCK confirmed the haul of the bronze medals courtesy of fine performances from both the male and female karate disciplines.
The male team gave a dedicated performance to bring home the first bronze on Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Other than the Karate team, Kenya is represented by the U16 Beach Handball National Team, the swimming team, weightlifting, and the Judokas for the Judo games.
The swimming games come with increased incentives for Kenya as the team of young swimmers seeks qualification for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
Angola is hosting the 4th African Youth Games as part of its celebration for its 50 years of independence. The event unites young athletes from across the continent, competing across 33 sports.
The edition will close its curtains on December 20, 2025.
