FKF PL top scorers: AFC Leopards, Shabana stars join leading pack

By , October 3, 2023

AFC Leopards Brian Yakhama and Shabana FC’s Peter Ongechi have joined the leading pack in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League top scorers chart.

Both Yakhama and Ongechi scored for their sides during the round-five match that was held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex and ended in a 1-1 draw.

Yakhama and Ongechi each have two goals and join a packed list of other players with the same number of goals.

KCB’s Francis Kahiro, Police FC’s Clinton Kinanga, and Kenneth Muguna also have two goals and are the new entrants into the top list.

Omala leads

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia’s Benson Omala, who did not score during their match against KCB, remains the league’s top scorer with four goals.

Omala, who was the runners-up last season for scoring 26 goals, has so far scored four and has a two-goal gap between him and the other second-placed players: Ezekiel Okare, Dan Wafula, Geoffrey Onyango, Jackson Macharia, and Peter Thiong’o.

Omala led for the better part of last season, but Elvis Rupia kept fighting, closed in on the K’Ogalo star, and eventually overtook him in the last match of the campaign.

Packed second places

Bidco United’s Okare has been phenomenal, although the club now lies in the sixth position, just outside the top four.

Ezekiel Akhulia’s side has scored five goals, with Okare being their top scorer.

Kariobangi Sharks, third on the log, have found the back of the net four times, with Onyango netting half of them.

Onyango should draw inspiration from former Kariobangi Sharks players Masoud Juma and Erick Kapaito, who won the Golden Boot while serving the Eastlands club before.

Macharia and Thiong’o, teammates at Posta Rangers, each have scored two. They are in top form, just as the club also remains an impressive unit in the top flight.

Rangers, just like Gor Mahia, are unbeaten this season, and the Mailmen look formidable, especially with the striking department showing sharpness.

Thiong’o and Macharia joined the John Kamau side before the season began from AFC Leopards and Tusker, respectively, and are poised, just as they have shown, to play key roles for their new club.
