Harambee Stars midfielder Duke Abuya scored the first-half goal to set up Young Africans for a 2-0 win over Singida Black Stars in the CRDB Conferederation Cup final clash staged on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Zanzibar.

Abuya’s goal added to Clement Mzize’s effort to see Yanga SC complete a dream season of winning a cup double, with the win coming only four days after their coronation as Tanzania League champions for the 2024/25 season.

Five titles

Despite carrying the lethargy of Wednesday’s coronation as league champions to the tie, Yanga proved to good for the rivals under the tutelage of Kenyan David Ouma to claim the cup credits.

The success wrapped a season of high return for the Tanzanian giants, who ended the season with a total of five domestic trophies overall.

The club won the Toyota Cup and the top league’s Community Shield trophy to kick off the season.

Sunday victory brought the trophy haul to five, adding to similar cruising successes from the Muungano Cup and the NMB League Champions trophy.
Meanwhile, Singida will look retrospectively at the positives from the season despite the crushing defeat.

Singida punched their spot to the Confederation Cup, having achieved the feat in May, through beating Simba SC to pick their tickets to he finals. The club under the coach bid to add a maiden top-flight to their rank only to fall at the final hurdle against Yanga.

Azizi’s loss, Abuya’s gain

Meanwhile, in what will remain a dream season for Yanga and particularly the Harambee Stars ace, Abuya, the former Police FC and Kariobangi Sharks attacker had been forced to contend with a bit-role part at the club since his switch to the country before enjoying a rare starting berth recently following the transfer of Burkina Faso’s maestro Azizi Ki to Wydad Casablanca.
