8 fan zones where you can watch Harambee Stars’ CHAN match against Zambia revealed
By Faith Lagat, August 17, 2025Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has listed the establishment of fan zones across Nairobi to allow supporters to watch Harambee Stars’ crucial African Nations Championship (CHAN) group match against Zambia on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The move, revealed through Mohammed’s official X account on August 17, comes as thousands of Kenyans grapple with limited stadium access due to heightened security measures. The game is expected to draw massive interest as Harambee Stars push to cement their place at the top of Group A.
The designated fan zones include Uhuru Park in Nairobi CBD, Jacaranda Grounds in Embakasi, DC Grounds in Kibera, Safari Rally Grounds in Kasarani, Dandora Stadium in Dandora, Utalii Sports Grounds in Ruaraka, Pand Pieri Grounds in Githurai, and Baba Dogo Grounds in Baba Dogo.
“Don’t have a ticket? Worry not. You can watch today’s Harambee Stars final group game against Zambia at your nearest fan zone. Response to crowd trouble
The initiative expands the original plan of six viewing centers to eight, reflecting what FKF describes as a responsive and inclusive approach. It comes just days after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) slapped Kenya with a Ksh6.4 million fine following crowd trouble at Kasarani Stadium during the Kenya vs Morocco clash on August 10.
During that match, ticketless fans breached security and stormed the venue, disrupting order and prompting CAF to warn of possible relocations if safety concerns persist. The fine has triggered renewed urgency in tightening match-day protocols, with FKF and government agencies under pressure to restore confidence in Kenya’s capacity to host continental tournaments.
“Don’t have a ticket? Worry not. You can watch today’s Harambee Stars final group game against Zambia at your nearest fan zone,” Hussein Mohammed posted, while reiterating the #ProtectTheGame campaign message.
Leaders rally behind Stars
The fan zone strategy has been endorsed by senior officials, including Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, who toured Kasarani on August 13 to assess preparedness. Authorities say the approach will help manage crowds more effectively while giving fans safe alternatives to support the national team.
Harambee Stars head into the decisive fixture in buoyant form, with midfielder Austin Odhiambo exuding confidence in their ability to top Group A. The squad has also enjoyed strong backing from national leaders, among them Senate Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi and FKF Vice President McDonald Mariga, who have urged Kenyans to rally behind the team.
As anticipation builds, the Nairobi fan zones are expected to turn into lively hubs of patriotic celebration. For FKF, the strategy not only spreads access to the game but also sends a clear signal of its determination to safeguard the integrity of football in Kenya.
