It is a big win for embattled Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary-general Wilson Sossion as labour court orders that he remains in office.

In her ruling, Employment and Labour relations Judge Hellen Wasilwa also ordered KNUT officials to comply with court order reinstating Sossion as secretary-general within two weeks.

She further warned the union officials against disobeying the order reinstating Sossion.

On September 2, Justice Wasilwa in her orders reinstated Sossion as the union’s boss until the case he filed is determined.

The Knut members wanted the court to lift orders by Justice Wasilwa reinstating Sossion at the helm of the powerful union.

At the same time Wasilwa said the KNUT’s National Executive Council acted in contempt of court when they convened a meeting to ouster Sossion but could not be punished because there was no evidence orders were served to them.

It is said Sossion’s deputy Hesbon Otieno on August 29, KNUT through NEC members resolved to expel Sossion in accordance with the unions constitution.

Activities at the union have been paralysed as leaders fight over positions with staff going for three months without salaries.

In another matter pending in the same court, Justice Maureen Onyangowill on Friday make a ruling on the fate of the embattled Secretary General in a case that seeks to challenge whether he can be an MP and also hold top office at Knut.

Onyango is expected to give the determination in the case filed by seven teachers.

The labour court will decide whether Sossion ought to have forfeited his position as in the union after being nominated to Parliament by ODM.

In the case the teachers  argued that his political interests were in breach of the Knut constitution.
