Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has defended his recent trips abroad that have come under heavy criticism from some leaders and residents, saying they were official.

This came after some Kenyans termed video clips shared on social media of the governor partying “shameful”.

Speaking on a local TV station, Sonko said governors also have a social life. He added that one of the trips to Milan, Italy was to receive a global award on behalf of Nairobi as one of the fastest-growing cities in the world.

And speaking yesterday when President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Westlands Expressway, Sonko called on the National government to cooperate with the counties in fighting graft cartels that have deep-rooted networks in both levels of governance.
