23 KDF officers receive new ranks following presidential appointments

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has conferred ranks to the newly promoted senior military officials following their ratification by President William Ruto.

In the event which happened at the Army Headquarters in Nairobi, Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Tarus officially inducted the military officers to their new roles, stating that they were equal to the task ahead of them.

“As you ascend to higher ranks, the service places an even greater trust in your capabilities. I urge each of you to redouble your efforts and collaborate across services to tackle the security challenges facing our country. I know and believe that your dedication and focus will be instrumental in achieving mission readiness for the Kenya Army,” Lt Gen Tarus remarked.

On his part, the Deputy Army Commander Major General Mohammed Hassan congratulated the newly promoted KDF officers and urged them to uphold professionalism and integrity as they discharge their duties.

“You’re role models in the service. Your new ranks entail more responsibilities and engagements. Endeavour to be professional and serve those under your command diligently,” Maj Gen Hassan said.

Also present during the Thursday, July 25, 2024, ceremony were the General Officer Commanding Eastcom Maj Gen Luka Kutto, General Officer Commanding Westcom Maj Gen Jeff Nyagah, General Officer Commanding SOCOM Maj Gen John Nkoimo, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Personnel &Logistics Maj Gen David Keter, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces OPD&T Maj Gen Fredrick Leuria, Formation Commanders and other Senior Kenya Army Officers.

Ruto makes changes in KDF

In the latest appointments and promotions, Major General Stephen Mutuku has been appointed to be the deputy commandant at the National Defence College.

In the Kenya Army, the Defence Council promoted Col. Edward Nyamao to brigadier, where he became the chief of compensation and welfare at the Defence headquarters.

Similarly, Col. Collins Otieno was promoted to brigadier and became the Chief of Personnel at the Kenya Army headquarters.

Also, Col. Paul Koech was promoted to brigadier and named the chief of training, while Clement Ntakundi was also promoted to brigadier and named the deputy managing director of the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC).

Additionally, Col. Victor Mburu was promoted to brigadier and named the commander combat engineers brigade.

The other colonels promoted to be brigadiers are Eric Kitusya, who now becomes the Chief of Logistics at the Kenya Army headquarters; Salaash Kantai, who becomes the commander of the military intelligence corps; Edward Banda, who also becomes the commander of the 8th brigade; Jackson Lemakara, who becomes the commander of the Embakasi garrison; Charles Ochieng, who becomes the chief of naval medical services; and Yusuf Adan, who becomes the chief of the communication information system at the defence headquarters.
