Kajiado County Senator Seki Ole Kanar on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, raised concern over the disappearance of a safe box containing land title deeds and other critical documents belonging to Mbirikani Group Ranch.

In a statement shared by the Parliament of Kenya, Senator Seki informed the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations that the documents disappeared at Kimana Police Station in Kajiado County.

While bringing the issue to the committee’s attention, Senator Seki implored them to explain the circumstances under which a safe box containing land title deeds and other critical official documents belonging to Mbirikani Group Ranch was stolen.

He further directed the Standing Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations to outline any steps taken to recover the said safe box together with its contents.

He also demanded answers on whether the perpetrators had been tracked and what action had been instituted against them.

Re-issuance of title deed

The senator lamented that the disappearance of the title deeds had left the group exposed and thus asked the Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources if it had laid out strategies to give them new title deeds and help them replace other important documents lost.

“Senator Seki has requested the Committee to indicate the current status of the land title deeds bearing serial numbers 5253001-5253367 belonging to Mbirikani Group Ranch that were stolen from Kimana Police Station in Kajiado County in the month of August 2024 and state whether the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housıng and Urban Development has embarked on the process of issuance of new title deeds to replace the stolen title deeds, and if so, provide timelines for the same,” the statement shared by Parliament of Kenya read in part.

By the time of this publication, the Parliament of Kenya had not released a statement regarding Senator Seki’s queries.
