Ruto makes 23 changes in new KDF appointments, promotions

President William Ruto has made changes in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in a move which saw 23 senior military officers appointed and promoted on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

Major General Stephen Mutuku has been appointed to be the deputy commandant at the National Defence College.

In the Kenya Army, the Defence Council promoted Col. Edward Nyamao to brigadier, where he became the chief of compensation and welfare at the Defence headquarters.

Similarly, Col. Collins Otieno was promoted to brigadier and became the Chief of Personnel at the Kenya Army headquarters.

The meeting, which was chaired by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, proposed the names, which were approved by Ruto.

Also, Col. Paul Koech was promoted to brigadier and named the chief of training, while Clement Ntakundi was also promoted to brigadier and named the deputy managing director of the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC).

Additionally, Col. Victor Mburu was promoted to brigadier and named the commander combat engineers brigade.

The other colonels promoted to be brigadiers are Eric Kitusya, who now becomes the Chief of Logistics at the Kenya Army headquarters; Salaash Kantai, who becomes the commander of the military intelligence corps; Edward Banda, who also becomes the commander of the 8th brigade; Jackson Lemakara, who becomes the commander of the Embakasi garrison; Charles Ochieng, who becomes the chief of naval medical services; and Yusuf Adan, who becomes the chief of the communication information system at the defence headquarters.

Lt Col Jane Muringi was promoted to colonel and appointed service chaplain.

Additional KDF appointments

Kenya Air Force’s Col. Bernard Oluoch became the Moi Air Base commander after he was promoted to brigadier.

Similarly, Col. Eutychus Nyawira was promoted to brigadier and became the head of training, support, and research at the National Defence College; Col. Nehemiah Kemei was promoted to brigadier and became the CEO of the Defence SACCO; and Col. Mary Kamau was promoted to brigadier to become the colonel of Finance and Audit in the defence national security industries.

Brigadier John Sankale Kiswaa was appointed the deputy commander of the Kenya Navy, while Brigadier Peter Shikukuu Chelimo was appointed as the director Centre for Security and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University of Kenya.

Additionally, Col. Lazarus Wafula was promoted to brigadier and became the base commander of the Kenya Navy base in Manda, while Col. Abraham Biwott was promoted to brigadier and became the base commander of the Kenya Navy base in Mtongwe.

Also, Col. Mohamed Shemote was promoted to brigadier and became the base commander Kenya Navy fleet, and Lt. Col. Marcella Kanani became the deputy commander Kenya Navy fleet after being promoted to colonel.
