Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has taken a subtle swipe at impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his tell-it-all media address after he was discharged from Karen Hospital on Sunday, October 20, 2024.

Gachagua attributed his current political woes to his firm stance and facing his boss, President William Ruto, over what he termed regressive policies.

The embattled political premier thus claimed he was the only one in the Cabinet with the guts to tell President Ruto the truth.

“I am the only man in Cabinet who can stand up to President Ruto and tell him hey brother this is not right. This Adani thing is not right for the country, there is too much corruption in the country,” he narrated.

Miano’s response

Responding to a quote box shared by a local media publication on Monday, October 21, 2024, the Tourism CS Rebecca Miano defended Ruto insisting that he listens to everyone in the Cabinet with professional advice on affairs of the country.

Miano who served in the Ministry of Trade before Ruto dismissed the entire cabinet in the aftermath of the GenZ-led protests, however, shied away from delving into the political battle between his boss and the impeached Deputy President Gachagua.

“I can authoritatively confirm that President Ruto listens to well thought out professional advice,” Miano wrote on her X account.

The impeachment saga has attracted a wide range of views with some of the CSs coming out to defend their boss over the outgoing deputy.

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and his Labour counterpart Alfred Mutua have been vocal in castigating Gachagua. The two have not shrunk from publicly reprimanding Gachagua and throwing accusations against him.

Other CSs however have remained mum on the matter but only commented after Ruto nominated the Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to replace Gachagua.

With the latest development in the political scene, Gachagua has decried betrayal indicating that he never knew Ruto would be vicious.

“I didn’t know President Ruto could be that vicious. I am so shocked by how vicious a man I helped to be president, that I believed in, I was persecuted for supporting him, could be so vicious against me when I am literally fighting for my life in hospital,” he said.
