President William Ruto has launched a fresh produce market project that is set to help around 200 traders in South Mugirango in Kisii County.

The President launched the project on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, in his second day of development tour in the region.

“The markets that we are constructing across the country will improve the working environment for traders and enhance their earnings.

“This is what we pledged to do. Launched the construction of the Etago Fresh Produce Market Project in South Mugirango Constituency that will benefit 200 traders. Earlier, we switched on power at the home of 85-year-old Yunuke Nyanchongi of Riasuta Itibonge Village in South Mugirango, Kisii County,” Ruto said in a post on X.

Affordable Housing

In Bomachoge, the Head of State launched an affordable housing project.

“The construction of affordable houses in our agriculturally-rich regions like Gusii will help curb land fragmentation, which poses a threat to our food security agenda. In Ogembo, Kisii County, launched the construction of a 244-unit Bomachoge Chache Affordable Housing Project,” he said.

“Commissioned Sirari corridor accessibility and safety improvement project, Lot I: Isebania-KKisii (A1) Road, in Kisii County. At Itabo Ria Karani Village, Bonchari launched the Last Mile Electrification Project and connected the family of Bwana John Onchangwa to power,” the President said.

Nyamira tour

Ruto started his tour in Nyamira before he visited the neighbouring Kisii County. In Nyamira, Ruto mainly launched electricity connection projects.

The president launched the Nyang’eni Village Electrification Project in Nyaribari Chache, connecting 101 homes and 30,262 across Kisii County under the Last Mile Project.

“Lighting up communities, boosting economies, and bridging the urban-rural divide as we aim for 100% connectivity by 2030,” a statement by Hussein Mohammed, the State House spokesperson, said.

The president also announced the establishment of a university in Nyamira County at Kiabonyoru and laid the foundation stone for the Kiabonyoru Secondary School Dormitory, North Mugirango, in Nyamira County.

He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Kenyerere DOK Primary and Junior School Tuition Block, Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira County.
