The High Court has suspended the increment of parking fees by the Nairobi County government pending the hearing and determination of a petition filed by the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK).

In his ruling on Wednesday, Justice James Makau said the petition raises constitutional concerns that ought to be determined by the court and the notice by Nairobi County government on December 2 stands suspended.

The parties have been given 21 days to exchange documents before the hearing on January 21, 2020.

The proposed increase was to take effect on Wednesday December 4.

Governor Mike Sonko, through director parking services, had proposed Nairobi parking fees within the city center be increased from Sh200 to Sh400.
