First Lady Rachel Ruto has sent an encouraging message to Kenya’s team that will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics across July to August.

The First Lady has told the team that it carries the hopes of millions of Kenyans who will be behind them as they compete in the French capital against international rivals.

“As the 2024 Olympic Games kick off, we are proud of Team Kenya! To our brave athletes, you carry the hopes of millions of Kenyans. Your dedication, prowess, and unbreakable spirit embody the very best of our nation.

“May you cement Kenya’s legacy in athletics and show the world our indomitable spirit. Go Team Kenya!” Rachel posted on X on Friday, July 26, 2024.

The Olympic ceremony will be held on Friday evening, signalling the official kickoff of the global bonanza.

Kipchoge hopeful

Kenya’s team has top stars that include record-breaker Faith Kipyegon, Eliud Kipchoge, and Ferdinand Omanyala.

Kipchoge, who is eyeing history in Paris when he will take on marathon rivals, has revealed how the course is challenging.

“I’ve gone through the course, and it’s very challenging. It’s very hot in Paris in August, and second, the course is up and down, and that is a huge challenge to everybody. Nevertheless, I don’t want to complain because all of us will be running on the same terrain and in the same weather.

“All of us will be fighting, and I always say that the best trained and the best prepared will carry the day. I’m excited to see how competitive the events will be, from the short-distance events to the long-distance events to swimming,” Kipchoge told CGTN TV.

Kipchoge launched his career in Paris over 20 years ago, and eyes will be keen to see whether he will secure his third Olympic marathon title in the same city.

“The year 2003 was the beginning of my life in sport, and I can say I’m happy to go back there and compete and show the world where my life began and show the longevity and love for the sport,” he added.

Meanwhile, opening events are set to be the first Olympic Games Opening Ceremony held outside a stadium. The traditional parade of athletes will take place in boats along the Seine, passing the most iconic Parisian landmarks.
