Chief Justice (CJ) Martha Koome has expressed confidence in Political Parties Dispute Tribunals (PPDT) and the courts to handle any stalemate arising from the parties primaries.
Koome while officially opening the decentralised PPDT stations and the e-filing system, said the PPDT tribunal and the courts will work beyond normal working hours to meet the ends of justice.
She announced that PPDT will now be decentralised in seven regions within the country. The disputes can now be filed in Nairobi, Meru, Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nyeri and Eldoret.
Previously, the disputes arising from political parties’ primaries were only filed in Nairobi.
“ Decentralisation of the PPDT to other regions outside Nairobi will help Kenyans access justice, without having to travel long distances,” Koome said yesterday at Milimani Law Courts Nairobi.

She noted that previous centralisation of electoral disputes to Nairobi caused challenges given the distance some litigants had to travel. Koome said that the disputes will be filed through the e-filing system.
“It ought to be appreciated that the Judiciary has identified the use of technology as an enabler for efficient service delivery. It is in line with this that we have activated an e-filing system for the PPDT,” she said.
