Police, civilians ejected as Kibaki views Moi’s body

Journalists were on Sunday ejected and blocked from covering the arrival of retired President Mwai Kibaki to view the body of his predecessor Mzee Daniel arap Moi.

The police, National Youth Service (NYS) and parliamentary staff were also ordered out of the premises to allow Kibaki’s aides and the military to prepare for his arrival.

St. John ambulance staff that were stationed to give emergency services to the public and dignitaries and the guest choirs were also thrown out.

The public was also stopped from entering Parliament Buildings temporarily.

Media houses that have been beaming the event live were also directed to temporally halt their services for almost 20 minutes.

However, parliamentary orderlies famously referred to as “sergeant at arms” were spared to assist the military prepare for the smooth and seamless arrival of Kibaki.

The military, who have taken charge of his burial plans in line with the Presidential Proclamations, then sealed off the entrances to the main Parliament Buildings.

At 11:37 am, Kibaki arrived at Parliament Building where he was received by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi and his brother Rongai MP Raymond Moi and went to a closed-door meeting with Moi’s family.

Kibaki, who was using his walking stick was accompanied by Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe and Kenya Army Priest Benjamin Maswili as he gave his last respects to the fallen hero.

Hidden from public eyes

Unlike other dignitaries, the retired president made his way through parliament’s main gate situated opposite county hall avoiding the gate facing KICC, the Senate’s gate, which VIPs including President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has been using since Saturday morning.

This according to our sources was to avoid the public eye which has been speculative of his health.

“The state and his family are trying to be cautious about Kibaki’s health,” the source said without revealing many details.

“Yes, he looks sickly, but he came walking with his walking stick but closely guarded by his aides,” the source added.

While it was not quick to understand, why everyone was temporally ejected and barred by the military from accessing parliament premises where the remains former head of state lies.

Impeccable sources told People Daily that Kibaki’s deteriorating health and exposing him to the public will be sending panic to the general public

His absence from the public eye has been a growing concern for a majority of Kenyans.

On Sunday, a visibly energetic Kibaki in the video which has since gone viral was seen signing a condolence book at Moi’s Kabarnet residence supported by an unidentified man
