Parents asked to explore alternative ways to keep children learning
The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development 9KICD) has encouraged parents to explore various learning modes for their children who are at home following closure of schools over Covid-19 pandemic.
Through the Education Ministry, KICD has announced to widen televised and radio broadcasts for primary school curriculum.
“The Institute is working round the clock to make sure that learners at home get quality and timely lessons through the KICD platforms as directed by the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Prof. George Magoha,” said Dr. Mabonga.
Earlier, Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) ordered TV signal distributers to run the EDU TV channel, KBC radio and TV as a must carry free channel by April 1.
The publishers have also joined the ministry to upload more learning content for use by learners.
KICD encouraged other stake holders to take part in availing content to learners.
“The Institute continues to receive support from different quarters in making sure that learners are not idle, but engaged and covering lessons at home,” said Dr. Joel Mabonga, KICD Acting Chief Executive Officer.
Other partners like Safaricom are also exploring other ways for engaging learners through KICD.
