Kenya’s sensational sprinter Ferdinand Omanyala has revealed his hopes of bagging an Olympic Games medal in Paris.

Given that he has broken a number of records and went past some hurdles that appeared too big in his career, the African fastest man believes that winning a title in Paris is now in the offing.

“Everyone going into that race will want that medal, and at the end of the day it will be all about who the healthiest will be and who will be mentally stable. I’ll say myself for now, because every time I’ve been breaking the records that I’ve been setting, and I have been getting better with each race.

“Every day I look in the mirror and see a different person from eight years ago. I’d say that has been an inspiration,” Omannyala told CGTN Sports.

Simbine, Tebogo rivalry

In Paris, he is going to face his top African rivals, Akani Simbine of South Africa and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, with whom he wishes to compete in the advanced stages of the Olympic Games.

“Yes, I’m glad that I joined Simbine; I found him in the sport, and I was looking at him before I even joined the sport, and I will be so happy to see him make that final.

“Tebogo is a silver medallist from last year’s World Championships (in Budapest, Bulgaria, in August last year), and I’m sure he’ll be in the final. It’ll be a blessing to have three Africans in the final. However, we can’t think about the final when we haven’t talked about the heats. I hope all of us will make it to the start line and get to make history,” he added. 

The games will kick off officially on Friday, July 26, 2024, and Omanyala is one of the superstars in Team Kenya.
