Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Director of Communications Philip Etale has laughed off the chaos that rocked the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party headquarters at Hustler Centre on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Taking to his official X account moments after the fracas, Etale said that the goonism that has been for a long time blamed on ODM had now been shifted to Hustler Centre.

The Orange Party communication boss further stated that he had heard about the fighting that had happened at the President William Ruto-led party headquarters, noting that people had been left bleeding over the incident.

“Goonism shifted to Hustler Centre… I hear watu wametwangana saaana pale UDA Centre, people are bleeding. Wa!” Etale stated.

There was a standoff at the UDA party headquarters located along Ngong Road after unknown people believed to be embattled Secretary General Cleophas Malala supporters, stormed the premises in his support.

Chaos erupted as the pro-Malala group faced off with the now self-declared UDA Secretary General Joe Khalende who was left injured.

UDA’s Malala ouster plot

Khalende on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, declared himself the UDA Secretary General to replace Malala whom he accused of going against the party’s code of conduct, by supporting other political outfits through the newly-formed Mulembe People’s Assembly.

“Malala has abdicated his role and duty as the SG of the ruling party. The critical role of the SG of the UDA party is the spokesperson of the party; he communicates and initiates meetings on behalf of the party. Clearly, Malala has joined our opponents. He is supporting the TAWE movement and agendas which contradict the ruling party,” he stated.

Muthama on UDA chaos

UDA founding member and former chairman Johnson Muthama has since condemned the Wednesday chaos at the party headquarters.

Muthama in a statement issued via his official X account said that together with former UDA Secretary General Eve Maina, had left a vibrant and peaceful party in the hands of Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and Cleophas Malala.

“What is happening in UDA? Veronica Maina and I left a vibrant and peaceful party in the hands of Cecily Mbarire and Cleophas Malala. As party stalwarts, we expected everyone to adhere to the peaceful and cohesive leadership of our Party Leader. Please let us avoid engaging in activities that could harm our party,” Muthama stated.
