Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has asked civil servants to quit if they do not agree with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directives.
Warning that there was no space for defiance in government, the CS said anyone who did not support the government did not have any reason to work for it.
Speaking at Oloontulugum village, Kajiado Central yesterday during the ceremony to install Senior Principal Chief Roika ole Shira, a tough-speaking Matiang’i said every civil servant must be loyal to the administration.
“When our President gives the country direction every civil servant should follow suit. It is not a choice but a must. You cannot and you should not dare create confusion or go against the will of the head, the President.
Every civil servant has a duty to support the government of the day. In any case, if a public servant is not ready to remain loyal to the government, they should quit public service and enjoy the freedom of being in camps that oppose the government,” said Matiang’i.
He said the president was in the forefront to unite the country, warning that every civil servant who was not willing to support the unity agenda should resign with immediate effect.
Matiang’i also warned politicians interfering with administration officers saying any intimidation will not be tolerated.
“Politicians should draw the line and stop interfering with our administration officers. No level of intimidation and letters written by politicians will influence our decision-making. Our officers have no obligation to be loyal to individual interests and priorities,” he said.
Deputy President William Ruto and his allies have publicly expressed their displeasure with the way police officers have handled their functions. They have asked the officers not to operate under the orders of politicians for the sake of the country’s stability.
The CS also cautioned parents against exposing their children to immoral values, saying that most parents were to blame for the increased cases of immorality among learners. “The problem of immorality and indiscipline we are witnessing among learners has been highly fueled by parents. The learners are not to blame, parents are to blame,” he said.
The CS also said security officers had intensified their patrols across the country to ensure Kenyans were safe during the festive season.
The CS said that no police officer will be on holiday during this festive season noting that terrorism was still a challenge but he assured that measures had been put in place to curb the threat.
“We border countries with challenges that can easily compromise our security. Terrorism threat is still a challenge that we must unite to fight it by all means. We want to reassure Kenyans that as security agencies we are on high alert and ready to protect every Kenyan,” he said.
The CS added that they were on high alert and would not take chances to ensure Kenyans were not exposed to threats that could compromise their safety.
“We have intensified patrols in all regions and we will not take any chances on security. We have already set sufficient resources and measures to better police officers’ services. We have increased the mobility of our officers by providing enough patrol vehicles. We have also directed administration officers to work hand in hand with police officers to curb any incidents of insecurity,” added Matiang’i.
Matiang’i was accompanied by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya and Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi.
