Members of Nyamira County Assembly (MCAs) yesterday afternoon tabled a motion to remove Governor Amos Nyaribo from office over allegations of violation of the law and abuse of office.

The motion was tabled by Nominated MCA Juma Matunda in a session that lasted less than five minutes.

Speaker Enock Okero ruled that the motion will be debated on the floor of the assembly on Thursday next week.

It was signed by 28 out of 34 MCAs.

But sources at the Assembly hinted that the governor is accused of nepotism among other ills.

Nyaribo however accused the MCAs of acting at the behest of his political opponents. “I know there are people working around the clock to bring me down. But what I am sure is that I will be vindicated,” Nyaribo said.

In October, Nyaribo narrowly escaped impeachment when an attempt to remove him from office fell short of the required two-thirds majority.

Sixteen MCAs supported it, while 18 opposed it. The petition had been filed against Nyaribo on grounds of nepotism, favouritism, illegal staff recruitment, and failure to remit statutory dues.
