KCSE in progress

The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination is in progress, and stories around them are expected to dominate the day’s headlines.

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, five candidates in Mombasa were rushed to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital (CGTRH) with respiratory complications after they reportedly inhaled a gas believed to be toxic.

The students from Makande Girls’ Secondary School were taken to the hospital after developing breathing difficulties.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who was in Mombasa to monitor the exams, confirmed the incident and said the five candidates were forced to do their exams in hospitals.

“The five students were taken to the hospital; their papers were taken there, and they did it from the hospital,” Ogamba said.

The CS is expected to close the Kenya Primary School Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA) conference on Friday.

Reactions to Trump’s victory

Reactions across the world are expected to stream following Donald Trump‘s re-election as the US’ 47th president.

Kenyans are particularly expected to keenly follow the events in America at a time they have also upped pressure against Ambassador Meg Whiteman.

Whiteman’s critics have been calling for the ambassador to leave the country, and given that a new administration will be in charge of the US soon, they are hopeful that their prayers will be answered.

The former business executive and California gubernatorial candidate was nominated as US ambassador to Kenya in August 2021 by President Joe Biden.

Meanwhile, observers are also keen on what Trump’s foreign policy, especially on Africa, will look like. It is expected that the new Sheriff in Washington, DC, will have very different foreign policy compared to his predecessor’s.
