Ruto flies to South Sudan
President William Ruto will today Wednesday, November 6, 2024, jet out of the country to South Sudan for a one-day official meeting with President Salva Kiir.
In an announcement made by South Sudan Presidential Press Secretary Lily Martin Manyiel Ayuel on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the two presidents will meet to discuss the achievements of the Tumaini Peace Initiative.
Tumaini Peace Initiative, which was launched on May 9, 2024, in Nairobi, is a high-level mediation for the conflict in South Sudan.
It incorporates all the holdout groups that have not signed the 2018 R-ARCSS (Revitalised Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan).
Ruto, Kiir, and former Kenyan Army Commander and Chief Mediator Major-Gen Lazarus Sumbeiywo are the lead mediators.
“President Ruto will be coming tomorrow (Wednesday) upon the invitation of His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit,” Ayuel told a press conference.
KEPSHA annual conference
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Nancy Macharia will today attend the Kenya Primary School Heads Association (KEPSHA) annual conference that kicked off on Monday, November 4, 2024, in Mombasa.
Much is expected from her as prior to her today’s much-awaited speech at the meeting, the primary school heads urged TSC to promote administrators who manage comprehensive schools nationwide.
The school heads said the management of junior secondary schools has brought additional responsibilities that necessitate promotion.
Primary School headteachers are overseeing the management of JSS, pre-primary and primary schools following the roll-out of the Competence-Based Curriculum.
They argued that the establishment of comprehensive schools which are under the management of one board with a single headteacher has come with huge responsibilities.
“Headteachers have stagnated at job Group D1 because there is no policy for progressive movement. How will these teachers be appreciated? Will there be an opening where they can progress from D1 to D2?” KEPSHA national chairperson Johnson Nzioka said.
Macharia has been in the coastal town of Mombasa and on Monday, November 4, 2024, she supervised the dispatch and distribution of KCSE 2024 examination materials at Mvita subcounty, Mombasa.

US elections
Kenyans are expected to keep a close eye on the United Stated of America (USA) elections, with results expected to start streaming in today.
Polls have closed in Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan and Pennsylvania – three of the seven swing states expected to determine the outcome. The others are Arizona, Nevada and Wisconsin.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said that by new state law, early votes in the Peach State are required to be publicly reported one hour after polls close.
“You’ll get a lot of results really quick,” he was quoted by BBC
Around 86 million voters cast their ballots early amid one of the most turbulent campaigns in recent American history.
Vice-President Kamala Harris, 60, only became the Democratic Party candidate in July, after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race under pressure from within the party.
Donald Trump, 78, was the target of two assassination plots – narrowly avoiding a sniper’s bullet in Pennsylvania.
Both sides have armies of lawyers on standby for legal challenges on and after election day.
