Reactions to Catholic bishops’ criticism of government

More reactions are expected to the criticism from the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) of the Kenya Kwanza government.

The statement made by the men of the cloth has rattled the government into issuing record numbers of counter-statements to challenge the clergy.

Key among the issues highlighted by the clergy include abductions, disappearances and the seemingly unending cases of murders of women in the country.

“The culture of lies is swiftly replacing the integrity and respect that Kenyans deserve. Basically, it seems that truth does not exist, and if it does, it is only what the government says. Unfortunately, it seems that the Kenyans have helplessly tolerated the lies told to them constantly by the politicians. Kenyans must learn not to applaud or validate the lies that the politicians tell them, but rather must resolve to seek and be led by the truth,” the bishops stated.

The other issues raised are over-taxation, chaotic implementation of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and runaway corruption in government.

Weekend football action

As the leagues take a break to pave the way for international football actions, the Africa Cup of Nations fixtures will feature a clash between Ethiopia and Tanzania at 7:00 pm and another match featuring Guinea and DR Congo at 10:00 pm.

This comes after Kenya crashed out of the tournament after a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in Polokwane, South Africa, on Friday, November 15, 2024.

Kenya only needed to win and hope that the Warriors lose their match against the Indomitable Lions in order to qualify for the Morocco finals, but a draw meant their qualification road came to an end.

Other international matches which will be played on Saturday, November 16, 2024, will be Turkey v Wales at 8:00 pm, Netherlands v Hungary at 10:45 pm, Sweden v Slovakia at 10:45 pm and Germany v Bosnia &Herzegovina at 10:45 pm.
