Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has reprimanded Azimio leader Raila Odinga for singling out former Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and calling for his prosecution.
Speaking on Sunday, July 14, 2024, Njuki defended Kindiki insisting that he executed his mandate as expected.
He however hit out at the opposition leader for calling for the prosecution of Kindiki over the recent cases of police brutality experienced in the country.
Njuki instead shifted the blame on Japhet Koome who recently resigned as the country’s Inspector General of Police.
“Yesterday (Saturday, July 13, 2024) I heard the leader of the opposition Raila Odinga saying that Kindiki should be sued. But I like to ask the leader of the opposition to leave Kindiki alone because he has not been found guilty by any court of law,” Njuki stated,
“The President will tell us if Kindiki made any mistakes.”
Njuki praised Kindiki noting that he was instrumental in fighting banditry and terrorism in the country.
“Mbona mnataka kiboko ya polisi ichape Koome tena ichape Kindiki? Kwani Kindiki ni police? (Why do you want the wrath of police to hit Koome and then Kindiki? Is Kindiki a Police Officer?)” the governor posed.
Njuki thus directed Azimio leaders to direct their rage to Koome who recently resigned allowing President William Ruto to pick Douglas Kanja as acting Inspector General of Police.
Calls for audit, accountability
The sentiments come even as a section of Kenyans continue to pressure various agencies to audit the dismissed Cabinet Secretaries and also hold them accountable for various irregularities if found in various ministries there were put in charge.
With the pressure mounting on the relevant authorities, President Ruto has vowed to form a government of national unity. He has also promised to pick competent individuals who will help him deliver on his campaign promises.
“Pray for me that I get employees who will help me to actualize the promises I gave you. You want me to build a new government that will unite the entire nation?” he posed to the crowd.
“I will plan slowly I see who will help me. Hasn’t it been said that some of them were from Nyeri, others Kiambu, Murang’a. Is there any problem if one of them comes from Eldoret?”
Ruto sent home the Attorney General and all his 21 Cabinet Secretaries apart from Prime Cabinet CS Musalia Mudavadi.
