Security personnel from the multiagency team are closing in on some political leaders and top commanders of bandits causing mayhem in the Northern parts of the country.

This even as Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki termed the security operation, launched more than two months ago to flush out bandits in the troubled area, a success.

Kindiki revealed that the security team had identified high-profile politicians, who he did not name, who are aiding banditry attacks.

He  revealed that they had already apprehended a top commander of bandits who is helping them in unmasking the intricate web terrorizing residents in Suguta Valley.

While responding to Senators questions at the plenary session yesterday, the Interior CS promised that they will soon arrest and arraign the politicians and other perpetrators.

“I want to assure the House that very soon we will have very high-profile arraignment of the command of bandits whether they are civil commanders or politicians. We want to build a case that will succeed in court,” said CS.

Kindiki (pictured) told the lawmakers that despite continued bandit attacks, security operation in the area is bearing fruit as they had managed to, not only recover stolen livestock, but also repulse many planned attacks.

He further disclosed that the security officers had flushed out the criminals and were currently occupying the caves, valleys and gorges that the criminals had turned into homes.

“The banditry criminal enterprise has its own command. Just last week one of the senior commanders of banditry was apprehended alive in the Korokon hills and arraigned in court. The leaders from Baringo know who that person that has been terrorizing us is. He is helping us to zero in on the suspects,” Kindiki told the senators.

Kindiki also said people in Samburu County who were displaced due to the ongoing operation will be resettled.

He was responding to Samburu Senator Lumbetsi Lelegwe who had asked the CS about the fate of communities from Longewan Escarpment, Pura Valley and Nolkera areas, which were asked to move during the operation.
