Jones Mwanzia pounced on a loose ball, scoring the much needed goal in the finals. The team then decided to defend their goal, frustrating Wazoefu and ensuring that they booked their ticket for the national finals.
Mwanzia, said after the match: “Am quite happy with the performance of our team. We were the underdogs in tonight’s finals but we eventually proved to be the best team in the region. We now look forward to the national finals in Nairobi and I trust I can continue with my scoring form to help my team win and book a ticket to play in Nigeria.”
Enroute to the final, Young Ghetto defeated Mawa FC 2-0 in the knock-out phase, before beating Burning City FC 1-0 in the quarter finals. In the semis they pipped the resilient Machakos Youth Football Club 2-1.
In the third place play-offs, the fancied W.I football club led by former Harambee Stars player Innocent Mutiso defeated Machakos Youth Football Club 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out.
This was after the two teams drew 2-2 during normal regulation time. Innocent Mutiso scored the first goal for W.I FC, before Machakos Youth equalised through Stephanie Wangare. Allan Omondi from Machakos Youth soon after added the tally but it was disallowed due to infringement in the penalty box.
