Worry as Kenya Power pole falls on old man’s house in Gatundu village
By Mathew.Ndungu, February 10, 2022Kenya Power is on the spot after an electricity pole fell destroying a house belonging to an old man at Karinga village in Gatundu South, Kiambu County.
The house owned by a former assistant chief identified as Githiga Miingi was significantly damaged on the roof creating leakages on top.
According to Chege Gitau, a neighbour, the damages put the 80-year-old man at risk of suffering when it rains.
The incident happened today, just three days after locals lodged complaints at Kenya Power offices in Gatundu over possibility of the pole falling.
“We are worried that KPLC is not giving us a listening ear. The possibility of this incident happening was reported at Kenya Power- Gatundu offices but nothing was done until this mess occurred. There is a lot of laxity with the electricity officers,” said Gitau.
Patricia Njeri, the former Assistant Chief’s daughter, said the incident only destroyed a few house items but no one was injured.
“Kenya Power officers are yet to come to the ground to address the situation pointing to intensified laxity with the company,” Njeri said.
The incident happened only two days after another electricity pole fell at Kimaruri Primary School within the same constituency leaving two minors with leg and hands fractures.
The children are still receiving treatment at Gatundu Level Five Hospital forcing them to stay out of school as other pupils continue with their studies.
