World, local leaders laud president for eloquence during city summit
By Alvin.Mwangi, September 7, 2023President William Ruto, has received praise over how he presented himself in the African Climate Summit.
Many who attended the summit described Ruto as a courageous leader who took to the stage to present key problems that Africa has been facing on issues to do with climate.
Approximately 30,000 delegates attended the summit, including prominent figures like the top US climate diplomat, John Kerry, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, and numerous African leaders.
Excellent presentation
US climate diplomat John Kerry (pictured) lauded President Ruto’s speech at the Tsavo Amphitheatre, describing it as an “excellent presentation.” Kerry remarked, “I have a feeling that after that extraordinarily powerful presentation by President Ruto, nobody should say anything; we should just act.” He continued, “President Ruto is showing the path for everyone to follow. Your leadership is palpable. You have set a clear path for us. Africa is meeting. Africa is talking. Africa is deciding.”
Rwandan President Paul Kagame subtly praised Ruto’s eloquence in addressing the need to review ‘unfair’ funding policies by multilateral banks, stating, “Any meaningful structural change must favor debt restructuring and lower interest rates, as President Ruto has eloquently explained.”
Kenyan leaders also joined in praising President Ruto for his conduct at the African Climate Summit. Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, commended Ruto’s stellar performance and congratulated Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya for ensuring a seamless flow at the Summit.
Mutua’s Twitter message read, “I think besides President Ruto’s stellar performance at the Africa Climate Summit, the star of the moment is Environment CS Soipan Tuya. It was a delight to see her calm and professional demeanour throughout the sessions yesterday and today. Everything flowed seamlessly, and the organisation and coordination were world-class. Well done Waziri and your team. You made us all proud.”
