Isiolo Woman Representative Mumina Bonaya has urged communities in the county to take up programmes that can uplift their living standards and make them respectable persons in society.

Speaking during a meeting when she met stakeholders who work with women, girls, persons living with disability and elderly persons in society, Mumina said there is need to collaborate and enlighten these individuals on the various programmes being run by different departments for better service delivery.

According to Mumina, a TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programme is currently being spearheaded to ensure that many girls and boys enroll so as to acquire skills that can enable them become self-reliant.

“These special groups have no knowledge on programmes such as the Women Enterprise Fund, Youth Fund, Uwezo Fund, and Registration of Persons among others which can go a long way in improving their way of life. Many women lack financial muscle and are hardly incorporated in decision making matters in their community. Elderly persons have no strength to fight for their rights hence end up missing out on many opportunities. There is need to assist these individuals to enable them improve their living standards,” said Mumina.

The office of the Woman Rep is collaborating with an NGO, MercyCorps, to bring in officers in charge of various programmes to enlighten the community on issues affecting their lives.
