A mother of five children is being held at Eldoret central police station cells in connection with the grisly murder of her estranged husband.
The suspect identified only as Winnie was arrested by police detectives at their rental house in Kahoya estate along the Eldoret-Webuye highway as she was in the process of fleeing.
A sharp blood-stained knife which is suspected to have been used in the stabbing of the slain man identified as Moriis Karis was also recovered at the scene of the incident.
According to neighbours, the couple was arguing over proceeds from the sale of bhang, a trade they are said to have been jointly engaged in for more than two decades. The assailant had accused her husband of squandering all the money from the sale of bhang instead of bringing the cash home for accountability.
“The wife was heard saying the husband had squandered all the money he got from the sale of bhang business they are engaged in jointly and wanted it back,” said a female neighbour who declined to be named.
She added that a few minutes later, they heard a commotion emanating from the house of the two only to learn later that she had stabbed her husband with a knife leading to his death on the spot.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed the tragic incident saying the suspect had already been apprehended and was being held in police custody ahead of his arraignment in court.
“We are holding a woman in police custody as a prime suspect in the killing of her husband. She will be taken to court once we are through with investigations into the murder case,” stated Mwanthi.
