Party of National Unity (PNU) yesterday condemned the withdrawal of security attached to opposition leaders.

At the same time, the party which held its National Executive Council meeting and reinstated its leader, former Agriculture CS, Peter Munya, expressed support for the three-day anti-government protests.
Munya (pictured) said the party would actively be involved in the demonstrations.

“We express our displeasure and condemn in the strongest terms possible the withdrawal of security of leaders,” said Munya who was flanked by NEC members, asserting that the security of citizens was not negotiable.

In Mombasa, leaders and residents allied to Azimio have described as unconstitutional the move by the government to withdraw security officials attached to Azimio leaders. They promised to turn out in large numbers to protest the high cost of living and heavy taxation.

Speaking at Mama Ngina Waterfront, Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki also condemned remarks by President William Ruto asking Kenya Kwanza MPs to organise counter-meetings.

“The President should withdraw the statement and apologize to the nation because demonstration is a constitutional right,” Faki said.
