Wiper in retreat to launch nationwide drive with eye on 2027
The Wiper Democratic Movement has intensified its campaign to build momentum for its bid to capture the presidency in 2027.
In a press briefing held in Mombasa, Wiper County officials, led by newly-appointed coordinator Millicent Odhiambo, vowed to champion transparency and address the pressing issues plaguing Kenyans.
Odhiambo called for comprehensive lifestyle audits of public officials, saying the move was necessary to uproot corruption, which she blamed for hindering the country’s progress.
“The party is committed to fighting corruption to the bitter end. There is no reverse gear on our journey to State House,” she declared.
Odhiambo also condemned the rising cases of abductions and unlawful detentions, demanding immediate action. She also criticised the state of the healthcare system, which she described as disorganised and incapable of saving lives.
Clean record
“You remember the city mortuary was full the other day. This government is failing Kenyans because of its inability to run an efficient healthcare system,” she lamented.
Odhiambo emphasised the need to restore the Social Health Authority (SHA) portal and ensure timely medical approvals to prevent unnecessary loss of lives.
Coast Wiper Chair Dr John Chamia echoed Odhiambo’s sentiments, presenting Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the solution to Kenya’s governance challenges. Chamia praised Kalonzo as a seasoned leader with an unblemished record.
“Kalonzo’s experience as Vice President and his role in steering the economy during the Kibaki administration underscore his readiness to lead,” he said.
Formidable force
The officials urged Kenyans to prepare for a Kalonzo presidency, touting his diplomatic prowess and unifying vision as the key to a prosperous and inclusive Kenya.
As part of its strategy, Wiper plans to bolster its presence in Mombasa by establishing offices in all six constituencies within the county. According to Odhiambo, the goal is to unite residents around a people-centred agenda and create a strong grassroots network.
“Wiper is on a nationwide drive to forge partnerships with like-minded, corruption-free Kenyans. Together, we will form a formidable force to charge into Statehouse,” she said.
Chamia also highlighted the critical need for an operational Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). He noted that some constituencies lack representation in Parliament.
“This situation is absurd. We urge the IEBC selection panel to expedite the recruitment process so the commission can function as required,” Chamia said.
