Wiper hits back at Cheruiyot over remarks on Kalonzo

Wiper Democratic Movement Party has slammed Kericho County Senator Aaron Cheruiyot over his recent remarks chastising the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka after he called out the state following the teargassing of Butere Girls students after their play saga that sparked nationwide controversy.
In a statement, the party condemned Cheruiyot for terming Kalonzo’s remarks as stupid stating that his (Cheruiyot) actions expose the level of discourse in the corridors of power.
The party went on to state that the senator’s actions mirror the very system that seeks to suppress the voice of the people.
“Cheruiyot’s words echo the mindless obedience of a dog, dutifully parroting the thoughts of his master without an ounce of independent thought. He is a reflection of the very system that seeks to suppress the voices of the people and his attacks on Kalonzo are as cowardly as they are intellectually bankrupt,” the party added.

The Kalonzo-led party continued faulting Cheruiyot, accusing him of failing to grasp the fundamental rights of the youth to challenge authority through peaceful means.
“Cheruiyot, in his arrogance, has failed to grasp the fundamental right of every Kenyan, especially the youth, to challenge authority through peaceful means, including theatre and art.
“His attack on our party leader implies that he defends the oppressive actions meted out against the students and exposes his disdain for free expression and his willingness to serve as a mouthpiece for those in power, regardless of the harm it cause to the fabric of our society,” they added.
While maintaining Kalonzo’s stance on the saga, the party affirmed that the country’s youth deserve to be heard, not silenced by authoritarian measures.
The party added that the incident serves as a warning that the the forces seeking control, suppression and censorship will stop at nothing to maintain their grip on power. It, however, underscored that the incident reveals the strength and resilience of the young people.
Cheruiyot had called out Kalonzo, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa over their criticism on the state over the police attack on Butere Girls’ students on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

In his speech, Cheruiyot fired at the leaders over what he described as blaming the president in matters that do not concern him.
He told off the leaders describing their actions as stupid and termed them as political scavengers who lack an agenda.
