Why Kakamega host Kenya Cup final
Kakamega’s showground will once again play host to the high profile Kenya Cup league climax on Saturday pitting arch rivals Kabras Sugar against KCB.
This will be a repeat of last year’s final where Kabras emerged the winners at the same venue.
The decision of the venue was made by the home team Kabras by virtue of being the highest ranked finalist. The league regulations earns them the right to host the final, if KCB was the highest ranked finalist, they could have been given the honours of hosting the final.
Kabras hosted the final at the same venue last year and also enjoyed the rights to host the 2021 final, which they did at the Nandi Bears grounds where they were stunned by their opponents.
The two sides have been the most dominant and consistent sides in the Kenya Cup, not only this season, but over the past nine seasons.
In fact, there has not been a Kenya Cup final since 2014 that has not featured the two sides.
This will be the 16th meeting between Kabras Sugar and KCB since they first clashed in 2014.
Overall, KCB have won 11 of their 15 previous encounters while Kabras have won 3. One match has ended in a draw.
Coming into this Saturday’s clash it is Kabras with the upper hand, having won the most recent encounter against their arch nemesis slightly over three weeks ago.
