Why Kaberia’s tenure at Kencom House was doomed

Kirimi Kaberia moves to the Mining docket from the Sports Ministry with little accomplished but a lot unresolved.
Kaberia was the Principal Secretary when Kenya bid and successfully had the Safari Rally readmitted to the World Rally Championship calendar and also saw Harambee Stars return to the African Cup of Nations after a 15-year wait.
He backed the national team by releasing Sh244 million from the ministry to support their preparations before and during the tournament.
However, he has failed to complete the renovation of 11 stadiums with Nyayo and Kipchoge Keino, whose works started three years ago and hundreds of millions spent, still far off.
He has also been accused of favouring other facilities in allocation of funds, case in point being Kinoru and Chuka stadiums whose work was speeded up, while other high-profile ones lag behind.
The poor stadiums were the reason Kenya lost the hosting rights of the 2018 CHAN tournament.
Federation bosses have also labelled him the stumbling block at the ministry, accusing him of frustrating national teams by either releasing money from the Sports Fund late or giving them little.
A cold war with his boss Amina Mohamed was also said to be derailing service delivery as well as allegations of mismanagement of funds.
