Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament (MP) Kabando wa Kabando affirmed his support for Azimio supremo Raila Odinga’s Saba Saba rally slated for July 7, 2023.
Through a statement shared via his official Twitter page, the lawmaker pointed out that he was supporting the opposition leader’s call for anti-government protests due to the current state of affairs in the country.
According to the MP, the proposed new National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), the appointment of strangers in the cabinet and the Finance Act 2023 are some of the reasons he will be joining Raila’s Saba Saba rally.
“Robbery @nhifkenya. 50 CASs. #FinanceBill2023. Strangers in Cabinet. Raiding our forests. “At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail,” Job 14:7. Fidelity to CoK, so I, Kabando wa Kabando, support #SabaSaba #7/7,” he wrote.

The former MP had previously touted the upcoming rally as a turning point for Kenyans.
He explained that quarters were disgruntled by the high cost of living and high taxation and as such they will hit the streets to protest.
“#SABASABA 7/7 of 2023 will be a turning point. Unlike previous #maandamano, this round, it won’t be about Raila. Allover citizens are angry, disgruntled, betrayed, frustrated and ready to rise up against Ruto’s taxation,” he wrote.
“If Ruto is not careful, things are fast heading south,” he added.
Saba Saba protests
On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Raila announced July 7 popularly known as Saba Saba as the day for anti-government protests and civil disobedience.
The move is meant to force President William Ruto to repeal the Finance Act 2023.
“Ruto is testing whether we still have the will, energy, and resolve to fight the re-emergence of dictatorship. After stealing our elections last year Ruto now thinks he can steal anything and get away with it. We have to stop Ruto and we have to do it now,” Raila said
“Having imposed on us the punitive taxation measures contained in the Finance Act 2023 in complete disregard of our views, we declare an end to the bipartisan talks to which we had sent our delegation in the hope that Kenya Kwanza could show interest in resolving pro-people issues including the rising cost of living. It is time for action,” Raila added.
