We’ve cleared all obstacles to education, says President

President William Ruto yesterday said the government has removed barriers to enable every Kenyan attain the highest level of education.

The President made the remarks yesterday, even as he affirmed that his Government is pursuing every available option to make education accessible, affordable and inclusive.

He said efforts his Government has initiated is towards ensuring education is affordable to all, right from primary to tertiary institutions.

 “Education, matters for our freedom and self-reliance and is the enabler and optimiser of every other undertaking. We have taken all possible measures, and pursued every available option, to actualise our vision to make education at all levels accessible, affordable and inclusive,” said Ruto during the 60th Madaraka Day celebrations in Embu.

Vulnerable learners

 Beyond subsidising primary and secondary education in all public primary and day secondary schools, he stated that the Government has reimagined higher education financing to deliver equity and broader access to all Kenyans.

This, is with special attention to enabling the most vulnerable learners realise their right to education.

Ruto said tertiary education in Kenya has for a long time been a privilege for the most fortunate, while university education was the exclusive entitlement of elites but not anymore.

He said the new funding model for higher education that the unveiled about a month ago, will make universities and technical training fully inclusive, financially robust and capable of competing with their peers globally.

Ruto also said the model will contribute to the country’s national socioeconomic transformation through innovation, research and development.

“The model is aimed at financially supporting increasing number of students enrolling in these institutions and ensuring that those from households at the bottom of the socio-economic structure enjoy equal education opportunities,” Ruto explained.
