Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula has condemned boda boda operators who are engaging in crime.

Responding to an incident where motorcycle riders recently molested a female motorist in Nairobi, Wetang’ula said that while the Kenya Kwanza alliance’s agenda supports small-scale traders and service providers, some boda boda operators were giving the sector a bad name.

“Whatever happened to that female motorist was completely wrong and the culprits must be brought to book,” he said at Lungalunga constituency, Kwale County, during an event to mark International Women’s Day.

He lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive for a crackdown on rogue boda boda operators.

“That crackdown will assist in establishing the genuine boda boda operators and the criminals that are hiding in that sector,” he said.

Cost of living

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai should ensure that all those were captured on video molesting the woman face the full force of the law.

“Their punishment should to serve as a lesson to others,” Kindiki said.

During their campaigns in Kwale County, the Kenya Kwanza politicians also promised to bring down the cost of living if they form the next government.

Wetang’ula said they will fix the economy and improve people’s living standards.

“When we get into office the food prices will be lower, gas prices will be low and the economic model will be the trickle down for the interests of all Kenyans,” he said.

He claimed that the country’s economic problems started immediately after the handshake between President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“It is that handshake that caused the public debt to rise,” he said.

West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi urged the people of Kwale to shift their support from Raila, saying he had failed to help them.

“Support William Ruto’s agenda he is the one who will assist us,” Mogaka said.

Kwale Deputy Governor Fatuma Achani said they will make sure Ruto gets 80 per cent of the county’s votes.

Mvurya succession

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, one of Ruto’s key allies, is part of his delegation in the United States and United Kingdom tour.

“We assure you that we will give at least 80 per cent of the votes to Deputy President William Ruto on August 9th,” said Achani who wants to succeed Mvurya.

She said that if she is elected as the next Kwale governor, she will preside over the completion of ongoing county government projects such as the fruit processing factory in Shimba Hills, Bang’a Teachers Training College and bring more investors to the area.

“We have worked together with Mvurya since 2013. Now that his term has come to an end, there are still major projects that are not completed. Don’t you think that I am best placed to complete them because I know them?” she posed.

Achani said that her administration would still focus on service delivery to the Kwale residents regardless of their ethnicity, race, gender and religion.

“Just like governor Mvurya’s administration, I will offer you best service delivery regardless of tribe, religion, gender and everything will be transparent,” she said.

Achani said serving as the deputy governor for the 10 years makes her the most qualified for the governorship.

“That is proof that I can do the job,” she said.
