National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has led a contingent of Ford Kenya politicians and regional leaders in campaigning for his party’s candidate, Vincent Maunda, in the upcoming Chwele-Kabuchai Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat.

In a statement on his X page on Sunday, November 23, 2025, the Ford Kenya supremo rallied the masses ahead of the decisive polls set for Thursday.

Clear choice

“With the by-election scheduled for November 27th, 2025, the choice before the people is clear. The voices on the ground are united, and the direction is unmistakable. Vincent Maunda is the leader to steer Kabuchai–Chwele to its next level of growth,” part of his statement read.

Other politicians in Wetang’ula’s entourage included Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, PS Juma Mukhwana, Senator Connie Wakwabubi, MP John Makali (Kanduyi), Martin Wanyonyi (Webuye East), and several MCAs.

His early Kabuchai meeting comes after he equally rallied support for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate David Ndakwa on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

In a statement on his media page, Wetang’ula stated that he led a delegation of senior Kenya Kwanza leaders at Shamberere Primary School to rally support for UDA’s David Ndakwa.

The speaker extended a piece of advice to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, whom he called out for what he termed as engaging in politics of insults.

“I urged Senator Boni Khalwale to show leadership and abandon politics of insults, noting that maturity demands dignity, not provocation.

We must respect one another, protect our leaders, and build unity across regions,” he said.

Kabuchai clashes

Wetang’ula’s arrival in Kabuchai was preceded by scenes of violent political clashes after Governor George Natembeya and his convoy were attacked while campaigning for independent candidate Eric Wekesa.

Wekesa, an ally of Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, is a frontrunner to succeed the late MCA, Barasa Mukhongo.

The independent candidate faces fierce competition from Maunda.

According to Kalasinga, the Saturday attack at his home that came after the United Opposition MPs’ campaigns in Chwele has left one of his home guards without limbs.
