Wetang’ula joins calls for Gachagua’s ouster

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has thrown his weight behind the ouster of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during a church service at Wamunyu Catholic Church in Machakos County on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Wetang’ula backed leaders accusing DP Gachagua of tribalism saying those who disrupt the country’s peace and unity must be removed regardless of the position they hold.
The speaker insisted that every Kenyan had a right to enjoy peace as enshrined in the 2010 constitution.
He further cautioned that leaders must be mindful of what they say and the impact of their words on the country, the speaker added that leaders should also tone down on politics for the great of the nation.
“Tunataka tue na viongozi ambao wanajua the limit where to go, what to say, where to say and the impact, nawaomba wakenya haswa viongozi, mpunguze siasa ya kukata kata nchi yetu na kabila au religion, kwa sababu katiba yetu inasema every Kenyan has a right to live on property and enjoy peace anywhere and everywhere in this country,” he said.
“Lazima tujue our diversity is the source of strength na ndio tutaishi, kama kuna mtu yeyote anataka kuvuruga amani ya nchi atolewe, because we want peace from everybody.”
The latest comes amid a looming impeachment motion against DP Gachagua who is being accused of abusing office,
Earlier, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah confirmed that he had appended his signature on the motion to remove the DP from office.
“It is true, I can confirm that there is an impeachment motion against the deputy president and as the member of parliament for Kikuyu I have appended my signature to it and I will support it,” the vocal Kikuyu MP said.
He alleged that the DP has been sabotaging the Kenya Kwanza administration making it difficult for them to fulfill their mandated roles.
Lawmakers are on Tuesday expected to table the motion in parliament.
