National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has thrown his weight behind President William Ruto’s governance and congratulated him on his election as Chairman of the East African Community (EAC).

In his statement shared via his official X account, Wetang’ula noted that Ruto’s leadership presents a promising opportunity to advance EAC’s mission of deepening regional integration, fostering peace, enhancing unity, and strengthening the security of the bloc and, by extension, the African continent.

He also affirmed the legislature’s commitment to supporting Ruto in championing the aforementioned missions.

“The Legislature reaffirms its commitment to supporting President Ruto in championing the EAC’s mission of deepening regional integration, fostering peace, enhancing unity, and strengthening the security of the bloc and, by extension, the African continent.

“As the EAC continues to pursue greater political cohesion and expanded economic integration among its member states, President Ruto’s leadership presents a promising opportunity to advance this vision of collaboration and shared prosperity,” Wetang’ula said.

Further, the speaker expressed gratitude to the immediate former chairman Salva Kiir of South Sudan for his service over the past year.

Ruto was elected as the Chairman of EAC during the 24th Summit for the Heads of State in Arusha, Tanzania, on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
