Wetang’ula applauds Ruto for including opposition leaders in govt

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has expressed his support for President William Ruto’s decision to include opposition leaders in government.

Taking to his official X account on Thursday, December 26, 2024, Wetang’ula lauded the move as a step towards national stability and inclusive development.

The Ford Kenya party leader revealed that while speaking during a memorial service for Mzee Morris Mabonga in Bumula constituency, Bungoma County, he had highlighted the significance of including the opposition leaders in government, in uniting the nation.

Wetang’ula in a statement shared on his social media accounts also applauded President William Ruto’s latest Cabinet changes that brought on board some of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s close allies.

In his most recent Cabinet changes, Ruto nominated former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe to the Agriculture and Livestock Development docket, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo to the ICT docket and former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui as Cabinet Secretary for Investment, Trade and Industry.

Wetang’ula on Ruto’s unity agenda

According to Wetang’ula, the experience, influence and political goodwill of the chosen leaders will further the President’s unity agenda that seeks to ensure no Kenyan or region is left behind or discriminated against on the basis of politics.

“President Dr William Ruto’s decision to bring on board Opposition leaders in government is good for the stability of the nation and stimulates development in every corner of the Republic. The experience, influence and political goodwill of the chosen leaders will further the President’s unity agenda that seeks to ensure no Kenyan or region is left behind or discriminated against on the basis of politics.

“H.E Dr. Ruto has nominated former Minister Sen. Mutahi Kagwe, former governors Hon. William Kabogo and Hon. Lee Kinyanjui to the Cabinet and are awaiting vetting by Parliament. While addressing wananchi during the memorial service of Mzee Morris Mabonga in Bumula constituency, Bungoma County, I noted that the move would strengthen the government and enable president Dr Ruto deliver on his promises,” Wetang’ula stated.

Wetang’ula on Bungoma unity

Wetang’ula went ahead to state that he had received a major boost in his efforts to unite political leaders from Bungoma county, after former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga agreed to work with him.

“My efforts to unite leaders from Bungoma got a boost as former Bumula MP Hon. Mwambu Mabonga agreed to work with me to solidify our unity. MPs who included Bungoma Senator Sen. Wafula Wakoli, Hon. Dan Wanyama (Webuye West), Hon. Didmus Barasa (Kimilili) and Bungoma County MP Hon. Catherine Wambilianga alongside MCAs were present,” Wetang’ula stated.
