Weatherman predicts reduced rainfall in 7-day forecast
By Kiprono Keileb, October 7, 2025The Meteorological Department of Kenya released its weekly forecast for October 7 to 13 on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, warning that while rainfall is expected to ease slightly, several parts of the country will continue to experience showers alongside rising temperatures and cold nights.
“Rainfall amounts are expected to reduce slightly this week. However, rainfall is still likely to occur over several parts of the country, including the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Coastal region, the South-eastern Lowlands, Western and North-eastern Kenya,” the statement read in part.
The forecast paints a mixed weather outlook; parts of the country will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall, while others will experience extreme temperatures.
“Daytime (maximum) temperatures exceeding 30°C are expected over parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya,” the weatherman noted.

Meanwhile, chilly conditions are expected to persist in high-altitude areas, particularly in central Kenya and the Rift Valley. “Night-time (minimum) temperatures of below 10°C may be experienced in some areas of the Central Highlands, the Central Rift Valley, and regions near Mt. Kilimanjaro,” the department added.

In its review of the previous week (September 29 to October 5), the department reported that several regions across the country recorded rainfall, especially the Central Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Western Kenya.
“Ndune Rainfall Station (Embu County) recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall amount of 68.3 mm on 3rd October 2025,” the department said.
However, temperature extremes were also recorded during the same period. “Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 38.9°C on 29th September 2025,” the statement noted, while adding that “Nyahururu Meteorological Station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature of 7.6°C on the same day.” The statement reads.

The forecast highlights Kenya’s ongoing weather fluctuations as the country transitions through the short rains season. As rainfall continues in most regions, Kenyans are being urged to stay informed through official updates from the Meteorological Department to avoid disruptions and prepare for the fluctuating weather conditions.
