Ruto changes tune, expresses confidence in IEBC

Deputy President William Ruto now says he is confident that the Independent Electoral Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will conduct free and fair elections.
Speaking after being cleared to run for president, the second in command expressed excitement stating that his Kenya Kwanza brigade was confident that the commission will be up to task.
“Kenya Kwanza has confidence in the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). We are confident that you (IEBC) are up to the task, my team and I will work with you (IEBC) diligently so that we can have a credible and fair elections.”
Ruto’s sentiments come days after claiming that there was a plan to rig the upcoming presidential elections.
Ruto’s grievances
In his complaint, the de facto Kenya Kwanza leader stated that one million voters from his strongholds were removed from the roll.
“We expect that everybody who is concerned including EU to try and get as much detail as possible both from the electoral commission and these public officials on what all this is all about and how did close to a million names disappear from the register. Most of the names are from what we consider our stronghold. It is a clear attempt to try some monkey games,” Ruto during a breakfast meeting with European Union (EU) held on Thursday, June 2, 2022.
IEBC’s response to Ruto
In a subsequent response, the commission’s chairman, Wafula Chebukati rubbished the claims stating that the register of voters was intact.
“I want to assure that the register of voters is intact. I want to assure them that their data is safe; the register has not been breached and we shall have a final register by June 9. We had 19.6 million registered voters in 2017, and now we have 22.5 million. That register is under audit,” he remarked.
