Wazito appoint American Medo as new coach

American tactician Melis Medo was yesterday unveiled as the new Wazito tactician following the exit of immediate former coach Fred Ambani and technical director Stanley Okumbi.
Medo makes a return to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) having had stints with Nakumatt FC, Sofapaka and Mt Kenya United.
On his debut with the shoppers, he helped them survive relegation at a time when they had started sinking financially. He was, however, unlucky in his second stint with the club, after it had rebranded from Nakumatt to Mt Kenya, as he was at the helm when they were relegated. His stay at Sofapaka was short lived too
“I am excited to be here and I appreciate the opportunity. I feel more comfortable here compared to my past experiences. I am here to deliver pleasant experiences and results to the Wazito family. The club owner approached me and after sharing his vision with me, I was willing to work with him and everyone else to achieve the club goals,” said Medo after his unveiling.
The American says he is not bothered by composition of the team and can only tell individual players’ abilities after seeing them in action.
“I have a good blend of players and I am not here to coach names. I do not know some of these players and that works in my favour as a player’s effort on the pitch is what I will be looking at and not their previous record. I will strive to get the best out of them and deliver the desired results. We will work on the first positive result then build on the momentum going forward,” added Medo.
According to club Sporting Director Solomon Alubala, Medo fits their requirements and was available immediately thus settling on him for an undisclosed contractual period based on his performance.
“We had many interested parties but some were not available immediately. We agreed on terms with the coach after extensive research on his managerial skills. We do not have a perfect team but we have a good crop of players and are confident the coach will deliver,” said Alubala.
