A Thika court yesterday extended the warrant of arrest issued on founder of Lesedi Developers Ltd Geoffrey Kiragu who is accused of defrauding land buyers Sh5.47 million.
Kiragu who has been out of custody since October last year when he was freed on Sh5 million bond with a surety of a similar amount has not been appearing for court sessions.
Thika Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo, also issued summons to the surety given to Kiragu to appear in court to explain the whereabouts of the accused person.
In court yesterday, Kiragu, 31, through his new lawyer Julius Omuga furnished the court with new documents including a medical one indicating that he has been under monitoring and treatment at Bughuta Health Centre in the past one-and-a-half months.
“I recommend a 30-day bed rest for him under close supervision of medics effective February 13, 2024. Please accord him the necessary aid during the said period,” a medical document from Bughuta Health Centre and which was produced in court read in sections.
But Atambo ordered the investigating officer to verify the authenticity and originality of the document and hand over a report before the next appearance in court.
“Investigating officer is given time to verify medical documents furnished in court indicating that the accused person has been hospitalized and is expected to give a report before the next appearance. If the documents are not genuine then that constitutes another offence,” ruled Atambo.
She at the same time urged the complainants in the matter to seek legal representation to pursue settlement in a structured manner which if genuine, she recommended.
In the same court, Kiragu produced another letter announcing his intention to reopen Lesedi office to facilitate better communication and transparency in his resettlement bid.
